This item is available in both "Polished Brass" and "Lifetime Polished Brass" finishes; however the companion F40 Privacy set is available only in the "Polished Brass" finish. It would be more reasonable to have both options available in both sets. Can you explain?
A. Schlage does not make their "Lifetime Polished Brass" finish on their interior door hardware. The "Lifetime" finish was developed specifically to protect against corrosives like salt, sun, humidity better over time. Since the privacy function is intended solely for interior use it is not made in "Lifetime Polished Brass". Over the years, exposure to the elements will not adversely affect the quality of security protection or the function of the lock, but a harsh environment may damage the finish. The harsher the environment, the more damaging the affect on the finish. For items offered in both a the "regular" Polished Brass and "Lifetime" we will only really would strongly recommend selecting the "Lifetime" finish if the product is going to be installed in an especially harsh environment (ex: a house on the beach).
